Jackson will once again be the final destination for the International Rocky Mountain Stage Stop Sled Dog Race in February after Evanston said they no longer wanted to host it.
During the approval process with the Forest Service, Bridger-Teton Jackson District Ranger Dale Deiter noted to the council the proposed change in venue for the race wrap-up, which has taken place at Bear River Lodge in Evanston for the past few years. The BTNF issued a five-year permit for the race just last year.
In an email to the town, Deiter asked the council if they had any reservations about moving the last stage to Jackson Hole (where the race also begins). Deiter said he was proposing the Lower Slide Lake area Gros Ventre. The location change also required a slight tweaking of the race schedule.
Town leaders said they were fine with the change and delighted to have the race once again finish up in Jackson Hole on Saturday, February 3, 2018.
